Carine

The name Carine was derived from the two swamps in the area, which were recorded by R. Quinn in a survey in 1865 as ‘big Carine swamp’ and ‘small Carine swamp’. Carine originally formed part of the Hamersley Estate, which also included the suburbs now known as North Beach, Watermans Bay and Hamersley.

Carine is a picturesque beachside electorate, bound by Warwick Road to the north,
Mitchell Freeway to the east, Karrinyup Road to the south and the Indian Ocean to the west.  Its northern boundary consists of a series of roads including Warwick Road and Clontarf Street.

The Carine electorate covers an approximate total area of 22 km2, and contains an estimate number of 23,392 electors.

The suburbs which fall into the electorate of Carine are:
Carine
Duncraig *
Gwelup
Karrinyup *
Marmion
North Beach
Sorrento *
Trigg *
Watermans Bay

Asterix denotes ‘part of’.
